An apparition

Dream a softer dream,
Please—
For few things are
Happier creatures than songbirds,
And the world
Most certainly is not coloured
In their ghastly colourful coats.

Be grey, and dream
About those dreadful poppies
And politics—those
Are the real hues of the woe.
Let those shades cast your lullaby,
And sweetly sleep 'til the night ends
In orange.
