Who paid?

Who paid for the sentimentalists?
Someone must have
    Because they have marched off

With their heads held high and
Hats erect,
    So sure of themselves

Like massive stars.
Well, someone must have paid;
    Or made the mistake

Of opening the doors. Now
They are gone; 
    Compliments of the crowd.
