The hero

He promised to save me from myself. He did.
He would drive northbound and alone 
Like heroes tend to do. 

I did not need rescuing, but I liked the idea. 
So I told him, "You absolutely must!" 
Well,

It is now half-past-two. The hero never came. 
But I have become a prisoner held
By the clock's hand.
